Gas Processing

Overview

Gas processing provides the engine of our operations, with the Habshan complex at its heart. Fed by gas from ADNOC’s onshore and offshore production operations, we produce a mixture of sales gas, NGLs, condensate and sulfur.

At the heart of our business, and the key enabler of both upstream oil and gas production and downstream gas and gas products supply, are our gas processing operations.

Onshore, we operate one of the world’s largest gas processing plants, the five plants of the vast Habshan Complex with its 14 processing trains and 6.1 bscfd capacity. Further facilities are located at Asab, Buhasa and Bab as well as the UAE’s only Natural Gas Liquid Fractionation Plant at the Al Ruwais Industrial Complex.

Offshore, associated and non-associated gas from the Upstream facilities is processed for liquefaction, with a proportion also sent onshore by pipeline to Habshan. Our Integrated Gas Development (IGD) project, which came into operation in 2013 and has been subsequently extended, added infrastructure including two +200km pipelines linking Das Island to Habshan, boosting processing capacity and allowing greater flexibility and production of value-adding products. On Das Island, we now operate five gas processing trains, in addition to the three dedicated LNG trains.

Our primary product, natural gas, is supplied to customers - predominantly utilities and industrial companies - throughout the UAE via an extensive network of pipelines. Our gas is used to generate power for industries including water desalination, steel, aluminum, fertilizer and cement. It is central to the UAE’s economic development and vital to the everyday lives of UAE citizens and residents.

In addition, ADNOC Gas produces a range of associated products, including ethane, butane and propane, paraffinic naphtha, gas condensate and sulfur that are sold to a range of domestic and international customers.

All of our facilities operate at outstanding reliability levels, a testament to our robust asset management and maintenance programs, which are being reinforced through new digital technology and AI applications.
